All-on-4® Dental Implants

What Are All-on-4® Dental Implants?

Losing one tooth can lead a person to pursue a single dental implant. However, once a person has lost most or all their teeth, then it is time to start looking into All-on-4 dental implants®. Dr. Andrew Mueller at The Marquis Center is an experienced oral surgeon who can provide you with this Nobel Biocare™ product. There is much to learn, and our team will go over the procedure step-by-step before proceeding.

How Does It Work?

You do not need an individual implant for each tooth you have lost. Instead, our team will only need to place four dental implants into the jawbone. They can go into either arch of teeth; the implants will fuse with the jawbone over time through a process known as osseointegration. During this time, you will wear a temporary restoration over the implants so that you can still chew like normal. Once the implants have fused, you can receive the permanent restoration and be on your way.

The reason patients only need four implants is due to the position our oral surgeon uses. The posterior implants go in at a 45-degree angle, which reduces the need for bone grafting because less pressure is placed on the jawbone. This positioning also prevents the implants from coming into contact with the nerve canals located in the sinus cavities and lower jaw. You will need to come in for routine check-ups in the following months to ensure your implants are working as they should. With proper maintenance, the implants will last for decades.

What Should You Do Next?

Not everyone will be a good candidate for this procedure. You’ll want to schedule a consultation with Dr. Mueller at our San Antonio location so that we can determine if this will be the best option for you. We will carefully examine your teeth, gums, and jawbone and provide the best recommendation possible to get your oral health back on track.
